An Informal Toastmaster meeting !

Do know what the safest thing we do in Toastmaster meeting is?

Yes, the introductory speech by sergeant at arms and setting expectation with at the audience that, please do not talk on sex, religion and politics.

After attending various toastmasters meeting I know the benefit of this movement. I have extracted a lot from all toastmasters. I want to give back my learning’s others in a possible way. I decided to run a public speaking session in my office with few people show interest in public speaking. You may wonder now, how I will coach others when I am not good at communication. You are wrong, in toastmasters we won’t teach anyone. We give the platform to learn.

I have arranged platform for few people on a Friday night for 30 mins. It was a very informal toastmasters meeting replica. Planned roles and agenda as follows – MC, one Ice breaker, TTM, Evaluation with the theme of the meeting, ‘ first experience’.

MC and Ice breaker went well and we moved to TTM. TTM brought very simple topics based on first experience. First topic was for lady – You received a proposal first time. She is married. Even now, she keeps that sweet memory of handsome colleague’s proposal. She regrets the nasty decision she made in the tender age by rejecting him. This guy is very big position now in a fine city. A dream city to live. Even now she look at him FB and talk to his photo. And do alt and tab when her husband come. I have requested all audience to keep this news within room to save a happy married life.

Next topic was first lie to your spouse. This topic went to a most decent person in our team.  He explained it with a lot of shy in his face. It was his first meeting with would be wife. Parents allowed them to talk. Girl asked him, if he had any love before? He said, YES! Because our hero wanted to prove that he has the ability to love a girl. But she did leave him. She asked whole story of their love story and he had make a well scripted love story for his would be wife. He passed her test and proved that he have the ability love a girl. Then they married and living happily ever after.

The third topic was very innocent one, First night. This was newly married man came to stage and started explaining the difficulties he went through and he didn’t leave it there. He tried and tried till he master with his life. One point he didn’t satisfy what he is explaining. Then used his body language to explain what happened.

End of the session, I have seen a happiness and confidence in many of the people attended that meeting. Every one expressed the desire to continue this meeting on all Fridays.

With all this, I realized on thing. To talk in front of public you don’t need any technique or training. Just have a heart to talk. If your heart wants to motivate others, you can. If your heart wants to inspire others, you can. If your heart wants to bring humor, you can. But have to tune your mind to do whatever you want to do.

What is the moral of this story, don’t restrict you with sex, religion and politics. But to protect the common interest lets refrain our speeches from these three topics!
