If you teach too much, they will become good and look for better opportunity out side. My manager said. If we dont teach them, they will stay in the same role untill we kick them out. Right?

It is sad to see my people, not able to speak well in front of the crowd. I know, the same will reflect in front of our customers too. Communication is a skill, you need confidence and knowledge in their subject. This needed learning and as an organization, we have to arrange this facility to our team members.
I have asked my senior members to train on the subject on Saturdays. I have not received a positive feedback or result of doing this. I could clearly see, this learning everyone was taking as a added responsibility. Sitting in the training room we responsibility, the trainer who think that was any outstanding performance.
In our office, I always get confused as director, I want to bring result and I know, if you want result from your team. They should be good at work, they should have the skill to perform. Skill is trainable. Getting trained is part of the job, performing and bringing the result is the job.
I had a dream of setting up personal development club in my office. I have assigned this project to my HR person. Sit with her and summaried the ojbective of this program. I have introduced to her what is Toastmasters and requested her to attended couple of Toastmasters meeting. Since it is Zoom meeting these days. It was easy for her. She did attend and excited, same time worried that how are we going to do this 1.5 hours programs in our office. I said, dont worry. We will customise for our office. We have list out the plan - 30 minutes, program each Monday. There will be two leaders, a President and Secretary they will manage the show.
Meeting will be aiming to improve communication & leadership skill. To perform both skills, we have designed projects fit in to our requirements. We have started the meeting with a hope that, it will continue at least 3 months. now we have competed more than 9 months. 3 different leadership team has performed.
Result was amazing, like my managers said, if people improve their skill, they will move for better opportunity. Yes, it happened. Couple of people left, on their exit meeting they have thanked for the confidence build due to this Personality development program.
At a business level, I have sales team with experience and high budget team members. We have not same job is down by our telephone customer support and advisor team. They able to communicate better now. This project of implementing personal development program in my office we a success for my team members skill development. My HR person has played a huge role in implementing and other leadership role holders are continuing this job. Now it has become a self running project. If you take any success in our job or activity. you may think, it was an accident or lucky. Not really, its all planned.
