power of follow up.

Talking to my father is joyful event now more than ever. When I was working in a MNC, we used to a lot of this about life and business, but most of his business stories was bouncers to me. I could understand by word but used to miss the real sense. Working with MNC provided me a lot of fortune to me, I have developed my personality. It was more of a mechanical life.  there is a set process, you contribute to that and it has a system that will ensure all actions will contribute a common action. You find hard to recognise what was your contribution. If I want to hire a person to my team, send a mail to HR with job description. HR will arrange person in your meeting room for the interview. If I find him good, send my approval to HR for hire that person. All done.

During this phase, when I talk to my father, most of this things were bouncers to me. He used to share his sales experience. Those were very enjoyable but I havent experience the context.

After I moved to correct job.  A small company, I am heading the business. 40 odd staff, all activity will moved with my knowledge and push. If I want to hire a person, I have to ask people in our network and get the referral. Then call them for interview, have discussion, if I like him, do the salary negotiation and on board the candidate.

So, My father being a self made businessman, his story have a lot of relevance to my current job and I got relate. I was discussing with him about pushing sales and importance of regular follow up with clients. I wanted to push my team for regular follow up. They also know, what I am telling is sensible. They always come up with stories, why they are not getting sale?

My father shared one of his stories about follow up. When he take his career as LIC agent. He have found liquor workers as a great client for LIC business. He has approached them and found that they have a trade union and if trade union leader agree for this idea of joining in Insurance policy, they are ready. He has approached the union leader. The union leader is very Orthodox Communist leader, he is very selfless leader for the welfare of workers. My father visited him, the leader didnt agree first time. Then he started following up with the leader continuously, almost weekly basis. The follow up lasted months, almost six month passed. He has followed up with the leader and same time he has worked with other clients and generated other sales. Finally after six months that leader took my father to trade union meeting and announced that, this LIC agent is a trust worthy, he has followed up with me for 6 months and I am sure that he has good sense of customer service. you wont have to worry to join in insurance through him'.
This confirmation from the leader help my father to get entire business of the trade union members. That day, he got 148 policies. Followed that all other trader unions for other part of Kerala also joined with him.

That is power of follow up.

My Parrot.....

I bought a parrot.... I bought a cage for the parrot.... I did everything to make the parrot comfortable... but I put the parrot in the cage... I fed the parrot.... I thought her call my name... I am used to hear my name in the morning... My mornings have a meaning.... That took me to different level of person... The person I wanted... The person I dream of.... I still awake with my parrots call... I earned the ability to do things for parrot... I have decorated the cage with gold... The cage made of gold... But I noticed my parrot... Is she happy?  She is calling me still... Is she satisfied ? That made me think... I saw the pain in her face... I saw the dryness in her voice... I saw the weakness in her smile.... I have open the door of her golden cage.... I want to free you up... Parrot  is not able to walk through the doors... Parrot worried about her duty... Parrot still awake me... from her open cage... with no energy no enthusiasm.... ...

Captain Phillips Movie Review

Captain Philips is a film by director Paul Greengrass based on the hostage situation of Captain Richard Philips during the ship hijacking by Somalian pirates in 2009. Tom Hanks played the role of Captain Philips and as always my favourite actor has done justice to his role. The movie starts with Captain Philips’s journey from his home to ship departure land Salaala port. Captain Philips commands the ship Maersk Alabama, travelling from Oman – Kenya, through the danger zone, Somalia. It shows an ordinary start for an ordinary man. Then movie takes us to Somalia and shows how pirates are forced to attack ships. Pirates are played by Somalian actors. Pirate’s leader is Abduwali Muse, played by Barkhad Abdi. It shows the risk and athletic effort taken by pirates, onscreen in a documentary kind of realistic way. At the same time the helplessness of the ship crew to protect themselves without an armed security is also shown in a parallel manner. The Captain takes all pos...
